Things I wish I knew as a fresher in the IT field

2022 and 2023 are tough years for freshers in the IT field as recession in the US economy is brewing. Since most of the IT MNCs in India have international clients both from UK and USA, the business has been impacted even though people may deny it.

Already, Wipro is delaying the joining of freshers for the 2022 batch by one or two months. This reminds me of the 2008 scenario when Wipro had delayed freshers joining by 1-2 years, and my seniors taught in college while waiting for the onboarding date. Having seen the fear of recession closely, I can empathize with 2022/2023 graduates, who are eagerly waiting to start their professional journey.

Below are some tips for freshers, from a senior who was once in the same tight spot:

While it is true that hiring has slowed down, many organizations are still hiring freshers. Since I work in Publicis Sapient, I can tell confidently that freshers are joining the organization. If you do not believe me, read Publicis Sapient Gurgaon reviews on personal blogs, LinkedIn, Glassdoor and AmbitionBox.

If you already have an offer letter from an organization and waiting for the joining date:

  1. Do some online courses to maximize your skill set.
  2. Do 2-3 months internship to gain experience.
  3. Search for another job simultaneously. If you are holding another offer at a lower salary, decide on a timeline to which you will wait. If you can wait 6 months for the joining date, focus on learning and explore opportunities meanwhile. After 6 months, you may have to make a tough choice and join whichever company offers you a job. As a recession is appearing, job openings may decrease, or you may have to compromise with salary.

If you are still looking for a job:

1.     Do continue your job search as usual.

2.     Do some online courses on the latest skills such as Cloud Computing, Data Engineering, Cyber Security, and Blockchain.

3.     To know more about trending technologies and work, you can read Publicis Sapient reviews or visit the Careers page of Publicis Sapient. It is a detailed page containing blogs and different client stories.

4.     You can do courses from platforms like Simplilearn, upGrad that provides degree after 1–2-year course, or you can learn for free from Codingninja.com.

The basic difference in these platforms is:

§  Simplilearn & upGrad take initial fees and provide job placement assistance.

§  CodingNinja provides courses for free, but takes monthly/annual fees once you are placed in an organization. They charge some amount from your package for 2-3 years.
